Island Rose together with other Philippine E-commerce websites, developers, service providers and bloggers attend the 2008 E-Commerce forum by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Philippine Internet Commerce Society (PICS).

The forum was opened by Ms. Vina Liza Ruth Cabrera of DTI, Ms. Mary Anne Tolentino, and Mr. Mon Lizardo of PICS. Hon. Ray Anthony Roxas-Chua III Chairman of the Commission on Information and Technology (CICT) and Hon. Thomas G. Aquino Chairperson of the e-commerce team of the DTI gave the keynote address.

This was followed by the Presentation on e-commerce and the WTO perspective by Dr. Gloria O. Pasadilla Sr. Research fellow for the Philippine Institute for Development studies. Here Dr. Pasadilla explained the impact of WTO policies on e-commerce in the Philippines.

Island Rose marketing director Dustin Andaya was invited to as a reactor to the presentations representing Business to Consumer (B2C) e-commerce businesses. He commented on the main areas he believes will enhance e-commerce in the Philippines. He sited the important role of private financial institutions as a provider of payment services to e-commerce in the Philippines noting that this will be the key incentive for bringing businesses online.

He also commented the important role of the government in providing protection against cyber crime. By protecting merchants against fraudsters, more businesses will willingly go online conduct their business.
