Grand Gala is a hybrid tea rose variety hybridized in France in 1995 and first adapted in 1997 to grow on Philippine soil at the Island Rose farm.

Large flowered and long-stemmed, this strawberry red rose has a conical bud that can reveal a bloom of 25 to 30 petals with stem length ranging from 60 cm to 100 cm. On of its characteristics is an exceptionally long stem growing up to one meter long on a good harvest. This makes it one of the varieties with a great potential for producing good quality flowers. It has excellent vase life which is at 7-9 days after shipment or longer if given the right amount of care.

The flower opens well to a half bloom while the color that is described as a deep burgundy red keeps very well in the vase without discoloration or fading days after harvest. Its petals have a soft velvety texture as foliage takes on a glossy dark green color which combined with the long vertical growth of its stem give it a regal presence in any piece of arrangement.

Grand Gala is known for a unique virtue - it is a thornless variety, and one of a few at that. A rose without a thorn sounds almost impossible but this is now made available to the public because of modern hybridization techniques.
